Amenities to Look for in a Luxury Glamping Experience

Glamping—that is, “glamorous camping”—has become an increasingly popular way for folks to enjoy the great outdoors without sacrificing the creature comforts of home. It’s a blissful middle ground between the more insulated (and some would say sterile) vacation experience of a resort or luxury hotel and the roughing-it joys of traditional tent camping. The best brand of glamping essentially combines tent camping with cabin living: the perfect marriage, if you ask us.

If you’ve never tried glamping before, you may be curious how to choose the right sort of location to give it a go. In this post, we’ll detail some of the glamping amenities to look out for in a destination—and how our luxury glamping setup here at Royal Gorge Cabins, set at the foot of the Southern Rocky Mountains and a stone’s throw from the incredible Royal Gorge of the Arkansas River, checks every box!

What Makes a Great Glamping Experience

Old-school camping is fantastic, don’t get us wrong, but it can be a bit too “rustic,” shall we say, for many people. Even those who love it, in fact, sometimes want a different sort of getaway every once in a while: the same kind of intimate and adventurous interaction with natural scenery and wild vibes, but coupled with some luxe amenities and conveniences.

Such amenities and conveniences include more buffering from extremes of weather, the availability of electricity and running water, and the like.

Of course, you can have all of those glamping pleasures but cast against a rather ho-hum landscape. That’s far from the case at Royal Gorge Cabins, where your “luxurious camping” plays out against a jaw-dropping tableau of looming mountains and wide-open country—Colorado at its best.

Our Royal Gorge Cabins glamping tents sit atop 8 Mile Hill, affording our guests knockout views of the grand topographic context of the world-famous Royal Gorge. That Colorado topography culminates in the soaring peaks of the Sangre de Cristos, one of the defining ranges of the Southern Rockies (where mind you, the entire, continent-spanning Rocky Mountain chain reaches its elevational zenith).

That surrounding skyline—and how it changes as the day and night roll along, from moonlit grandeur to magic-hour alpenglow and glorious sunshine—provides an unforgettable backdrop for your high-end glamping in a modern canvas-walled tent. It’s lit by a chandelier, establishing a pretty darn magical mood you just can’t get in your typical campground. Throw in all of the fabulous activities in Cañon City at your fingertips, and you’ve got an unbeatable home-away-from-home here at Royal Gorge Cabins.

That private glamping oasis of yours can come in the form of either a Single Queen or Double Queen unit, sleeping two to four respectively. These are equipped with electricity, Wi-Fi, and evaporative coolers, with a lovely mountain-framed patio outside complete with a fire pit. Our scenic Royal Gorge Cabins glamping tents share a decked-out, full-service bathhouse open 24 hours a day and outfitted with bathrooms, showers, indoor/outdoor sinks, and ice vending machines. You’ll also be able to stroll over to the communal firepit alongside our games and recreation area.

Keep in mind that, in addition to our upscale glamping tents, we’ve got beautiful cabins that provide a variety of glamorous camping. Indeed, our Double King Cabins—complete with climate control and an indoor/outdoor fireplace, ideal for chilly Western nights in the shoulder season or winter—are our all-around most popular accommodations here at Royal Gorge Cabins, and very much in the glamping arena as well.

Important Considerations When Booking a Glamping Stay

Booking early is always a good idea when planning a glamping escape so you have the best chance of locking down your desired dates. That’s certainly true for our glamper lodgings here at Royal Gorge Cabins: While fantastic regardless of the season, they’re especially sought-after during the peak summer tourism season when you’re going to want to reserve well ahead of your intended vacation.

Also, of course, make sure your glamping accommodations encompass enough space for all the members of your party. At Royal Gorge Cabins, we pride ourselves on offering a range of capacities for guests: from romance-ready couples to family groups.
