Perhaps no location in Colorado has received the sort of renown as Pikes Peak. Located just outside of Colorado Springs, CO, Pikes Peak is an iconic mountain that has inspired explorers, artists, and adventurers for generations.
Taking a mountain bike tour is one of the best ways to get an up-close and personal view of Pikes Peak.
What is Pikes Peak All About?
Pikes Peak is a famous 14,000 ft peak located in the Front Range of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Known as the “Rocky Mountain State,” Colorado boasts more 14,000 ft peaks, or “14ers,” than any U.S. state in the lower 50.
When driving westward towards Denver from the central plains, you can see several notable mountain peaks towering over the rest. To the north, Longs Peak looms over Rocky Mountain National Park and Boulder, CO. To the south, the rounded summit of Pikes Peak dominates the skyline.
Because Pikes Peak rises directly from an elevation of 6,035 ft in Colorado Springs to the summit at 14,115 ft, it has more vertical gain than almost any Colorado 14er.
The Pikes Peak Highway is popular among both mountain bikers and road bikers. Depending on your skill level and interests, you can climb all the way to the summit on your bike, or get a shuttle to the top and ride down. For more adventurous mountain bikers, there are also countless trail-riding options in the area.
Where Can I Book a Pikes Peak Mountain Bike Tour?
There are a number of companies in the Colorado Springs area that offer mountain bike tours of Pikes Peak. Please note, biking down Pikes Peak is only an option during the summer months as the mountain is covered by snow for much of the year.
